Benefits of Laser Hair Removal at Chesapeake Skin Solutions:

  • Look Great — Laser hair removal can help you be free to enjoy smooth skin all the time. No more uncomfortable in between and grow-in stages. If you suffer from follicles that still look dark even when your skin is freshly shaved, a laser can help to fade them.

  • Save Money — Laser hair removal may seem expensive, but over time you will really be saving dollars. In the long run, laser hair removal costs less than continued waxing, electrolysis, and other hair removal methods. Additionally, many of our patients are surprised by how affordable laser hair removal at Chesapeake Skin Solutions really is. We offer competitive pricing and offer both package and multi-package discounts.

  • Save Time — It is estimated women spend 52 hours a year shaving their legs. Stop the daily shaving and monthly waxing with laser hair removal.

  • Prevent Ingrown Hairs - Ingrown hairs can cause discomfort, infections, self-consciousness, and even scars. Laser hair removal alleviates temporary inflammation and prevents new ingrown hairs. Perfect for the sensitive bikini, face, and neck areas.

FAQs

  • IPL, or "intensed pulsed light" is marketed as laser hair removal by some practices; however, it is not a laser. It is effective for numerous skin conditions, including the treatment of dark spots, but clinical research and our experience show that a true laser is a more permanent solution to hair removal.

  • There are three main cycles of hair growth: anagen, catagen, and telogen. Laser hair removal affects hairs in the anagen (active) phase of growth. Thus, clients need multiple treatments in order to disable each batch of hair as it enters the active phase of growth. The average number of treatments for most areas is 6-8.

  • Face usually requires more frequent treatments (about 4-6 weeks apart) whereas legs and back need less frequent treatments (8-10 weeks apart).

  • Studies have shown that many patients can achieve permanent hair reduction of up to 85-95% and remaining hair returns lighter and softer.

  • The laser is attracted to pigment (melanin) in the hair causing the follicle to overheat and disable it. Since there is no dark pigment in these hair colors, the laser cannot see it and cannot cause the reaction needed to disable the follicle.

  • We have tested every laser technology for hair removal on the market and there is no laser technology that can effectively treat these hair colors.

  • The area to be treated should be shaved before treatment, so the energy is targeted towards the hair follicle and not wasted on the hair above the skin's surface.

  • Do not wax, epilate, tweeze or remove hair with the root using any other hair removal method for at least 6 weeks prior to the first session and throughout the course of treatments. The hair root needs to be in place in order to be targeted by laser as laser devices target the pigment in the hair. Shaving is still ok.

  • Avoidance of tanning treated areas 4 weeks prior to treatments is extremely important. Tanning activates our skin's melanocytes (melanin-containing cells), attracting too much laser energy to the surface of the skin, potentially leading to adverse reactions.

  • After the treatment, some redness and slight swelling may be present in the area that has been treated; however, this should subside within a few hours. Applying cool compresses and cooled pure aloe vera gel help soothe the skin.

  • Although rare, if any prolonged redness or swelling occurs, consult your clinician.

  • Keep the treated area clean and use at least SPF 30 sunscreen when outdoors.
